UMATILLA - Addie Terjeson's triple-double helped defending district-champion Helix start fast and stay in control for a 48-29 Big Sky Conference District girls basketball victory over Sherman County here Thursday.

The injury riddled Grizzlies finished second in the Big Sky East, after injured starters missed key games and starter Britney Smith suffered a season-ending knee injury early in the season.

Now, coach Dean Fouquette sees the potential for his team to defend its district title.

The 20-5 Grizzlies face West Division champs Dufur, a team Fouquette calls "tough and physical," here today at 3 p.m.

A win sends Helix into the district championship game for the No. 1 seed into the state tournament.

With a loss, the Grizzlies play for the No. 3 seed to state.

"Everyone played well," Fouquette said about Thursday's victory. "The girls came out and took control right away. They controlled the game from start to finish.

"Addie Terjeson played her best game of the season," he added.

Terjeson led all scorers with 13 points. She ripped off a game-high 10 missed shots, and she handed out a game-high 10 assists.

The point guard also directed the Grizzlies to nine turnovers to 22 for the Huskies.

"Addie shot well," Fouquette said. "She controlled the ball, and time-after-time she delivered great passes.

"I'm really proud of the way the girls played," he added. "We're only playing six girls, and they played with great poise under a lot of pressure.

"You never know how that first playoff game will go, and I'm proud of the way they played," Fouquette said. "It's nice to win the first game."
