Loney praised Humphreys' ability to find innovative ways to improve his office and find state and federal funding to upgrade training, equipment and service.
Commissioner Greg Tompkins said Humphreys "is one of the most respected law enforcement officers in our state and the western region, as evidenced by the number of offices he has held representing fellow officers and we all share that respect for him.
"We have been very lucky to have such a high-caliber elected official serving our citizens these past many years, as he has been an outstanding leader and a good partner, always going the 'extra mile'...He is leaving his office and the county in an excellent position to ensure a smooth transition."
Commissioner Perry Dozier said that although he had only "been fortunate enough to work closely with Sheriff Humphreys this past year during my first year as a county commissioner, I have the utmost respect for him, the way he runs his office and the service he provides to all county citizens.
"I have really appreciated what Mike has done for the Waitsburg area, in which I reside and now represent, over the last several years and know that the residents there will really miss him."
