UMATILLA, Ore. - Helix held a one-point lead heading into the fourth quarter here Friday, but suffered a 52-42 loss to Big Sky West Division No. 1 seed Dufur in a winner-to-state game in the Oregon 1A girls District 6 basketball playoffs.

Dufur outscored the Grizzlies 19-8 in the final quarter, powered by the shooting of guard Brianna McCall. McCall scored 15 of her game-high 22 points in the decisive fourth quarter.

"McCall didn't really score until the fourth quarter," Helix assistant coach Brooke Garton said. "She just got hot and hit some big shots for them. She had four free throws (in that span), but the rest were from the perimeter.

"Dufur made some really great plays down the stretch and our kids played hard, but we just weren't hitting our shots."

Meghan Schroeder and Chyanne Hack scored 12 apiece to lead the Helix offense.

The loss dropped Helix into a winner-to-state as three seed, loser-out contest Saturday in Umatilla versus Ione.
