ONTARIO - Mac-Hi started slow and finished strong.

Yet, the Pioneers couldn't overcome a 10-point halftime deficit in a 64-55 loser-out district playoff loss to Ontario here on Tuesday.

Mac-Hi finished its season with a 6-19 record, and the Tigers advance to the Class 4A Oregon state playoffs.

Nick Stanford led Mac-Hi with 14 points and Zach Conlee chipped in 10. Lupito Salazar led Mac-Hi with seven rebounds.

Jordan Lang led the Tigers with 20 points.

Ontario jumped out to a 17-9 first-quarter lead, and led 45-28 after three quarters.

Mac-Hi hit its groove in the final quarter to outscore the Tigers, 27-19.

"We just ran out of time," Mac-Hi coach Nick Ellis said.

"We played really well in the fourth quarter, but we dug ourselves a hole early and could never get out of it," Ellis said.

"That's the way things often went for us this season," he said. "This is a tough league, with La Grande and Baker in the top 10 in the state. And Ontario right up there.

"We'll lose nine players from this varsity team," Ellis said of next season's prospects. "Oscar Flores will be the only returnee with significant varsity experience."
