The 2009-2010 Hosokawa Journalism Lecture. "Media as Watchdog: Exposing Corporate Scandal" will be presented by Bethany McLean, author and contributing editor for Vanity Fair magazine, at 7 p.m. tonight in Maxey Auditorium on the Whitman College campus.

As a reporter for Fortune magazine, McLean was one of the first journalists to expose the corruption at Enron. She is widely acknowledged for questioning Enron's inflated stock price with her March 5, 2001, Fortune article, titled "Is Enron Overpriced?" McLean and Fortune colleague Peter Elkind co-wrote "The Smartest Guys in the Room -- The Amazing Rise and Scandalous Fall of Enron," which later was made into an Academy Award nominated documentary. Her column, "The Bulldog," appeared regularly in Fortune. She joined Vanity Fair in 2008.

The lecture is free and open to the public, with a book signing to follow.
