WALLA WALLA - Whitman College senior Hilary White and first-year teammate Kelly Peterson have netted All-Northwest Conference basketball honors.
White, who was named NWC Player of the Week in each of final two weeks of the season, was voted by coaches to the All-NWC First Team for a second consecutive year.
Peterson, who snared the weekly conference honor early in the season, received All-NWC Honorable Mention recognition.
White, a 5-foot-10 guard, got off to a slower start during the non-conference season when a number of injuries scrambled Whitman's player rotations. In her 16 NWC games to end the season, however, White averaged 15.2 points and 6.7 rebounds, numbers that ranked her third in scoring and eighth in rebounding.
Peterson, a 5-foot-8 guard, was pressed into almost immediate starting duty because of the early injuries. Making only her fifth college start, she collected her first double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds (plus three assists and three steals) to spark a mid-December victory over Eastern Oregon. She keyed an NWC win over Pacific in early February with a season-high 21 points, 19 of which came in the first half.
Peterson averaged 11.4 points and 4.0 rebounds during the conference season while shooting 54.4 percent from the floor. She was No. 2 in the NWC in shooting percentage, trailing only Hannah Munger, a 6-foot-5 post player at George Fox who shot 55.1 percent during the NWC season.
