FINLEY - Burbank raced to a 10-1 lead after one here Saturday in winner-to-state girls basketball district playoff action.

Connell regrouped to outscore the Coyotes 45-21 the rest of the way as the Eagles punched their state ticket and ended the Coyote season with the 46-31 win.

"We switched up our game plan," Burbank coach John Muchlinski said. "We came out in a zone. We planned to pack it in and make them shoot from the outside. They went 0-of-14 in the first quarter. We got rebounds and went down and scored, and after that we couldn't get rebounds."

The Eagles controlled the boards, 43-29, and, most importantly, of those 43, 23 were offensive.

"Those 23 offensive rebounds is what lost us the game," Muchlinski said. "We didn't rebound well enough to win the game."

Tiffany Idler came back from an ankle injury, but only scored four points before fouling out.

"Tiffany was at about 60 percent," Muchlinski said of his senior star. "She fouled out because she couldn't move her feet (as she usually does)."

Sarah McGary scored 14 to lead Connell and Brooke Gibons added 13 to pace the Eagles.

Nicole Roberts led the Coyotes with nine points. Roberts, Katie Breasle, and Briana Rivas each grabbed six rebounds.

The Coyotes finish with a 20-4 overall record, but come up one game short of a state ticket.

Sara Carrell, Monica Houser, Rivas, Chelsie Riehle, Jeni Akerblade, Idler, and Roberts completed their senior year with the 20-4 run.

"We'll miss them tremendously," Muchlinski said of his seniors. "They were in my first teaching class back in eighth grade. I've been with them for five years. They are great competitors and great individuals on and off the court."
