AARP Tax Aide program to assist tax return filers

Seniors and low-income people can receive help filing.

Gather up all your paperwork, tax season is upon us. If you're confused and concerned, there's help available. The annual AARP Tax Aide program will be assisting seniors and low-income filers again this year.

According to David Frasco, district coordinator for the program, two locations will be set up in early February to help with tax returns. The Center at the Park, 720 Sprague Ave. will take walk-ins Saturdays 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and Mondays 4-7 p.m. The Center will also schedule appointments at 509-527-3775. The Blue Mountain Action Council, 342 Catherine St. will take appointments for tax assistance at 509-529-4980.

The program is very popular, helping many area residents Frasco said. Last year volunteers processed about 1500 returns. According to Frasco, the year before that, because of the stimulus checks, the tax aide program in the area prepared 500 more returns for a total of about 2,000. "Some of these were people who hadn't filed in years but had to because of the stimulus checks."
