Walla Walla resident Victor "Doug" Anderson, 86, died Jan. 2, 2010, at the Herrera House, 1129 Lawson Lane.
A gathering to celebrate his life will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Blue Mountain Humane Society through Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla, WA 99362.
Mr. Anderson was born July 31, 1923, in Tacoma to Victor and Selma Olson Anderson. He graduated from Klamath Falls (Ore.) Union High School. He attended Oregon State University prior to joining the military. He was in the U.S. Army for 3¬Ω years then the U.S. Air Force for 3¬Ω years. He then graduated from Klamath Falls Technical Institute with a degree in engineering. He moved to this area 51 years ago.
On Feb. 4, 1961, he and Marilyn E. Brown married in Walla Walla. He was a construction site engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, retiring in 1981. An avid reader, he also loved cats and dogs. He and his wife enjoyed rock-hounding and were members of the Marcus Whitman Gem & Mineral Society. They enjoyed traveling to the Oregon coast, especially Newport, Ore. They also enjoyed collecting antiques. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. Mrs. Anderson died July 14, 2007.
