Executive Director of the Sustainable Living Center, Jenna Bicknell said the organization received $700,000 in stimulus money for a weatherization program. "It's a two year grant that we think will provide assistance to 175 homes and businesses."
Bicknell also said the Center's new location at Walla Walla Community College's Water and Environmental Center is an ideal space in an LEED certified building; it reflects the strong partnership they have with the college.
Another part of receiving the grant money will be the opportunity to create jobs. The Sustainable Living Center has hired its first staff member, Debra Callahan, program coordinator for the weatherization project. Beyond the organization's immediate staff, Bicknell said the project will help homeowners and neighborhoods as well as provide work for area contractors.
