Stone Soup sets new bar for salad days -- and hours

Just in time for healthy New Year's resolutions, downtown Walla Walla café Stone Soup is extending its salad bar hours.

The Alder Street eatery previously operated the salad bar 4-7:45 p.m. But co-owner David Leen said customer requests have prompted operators to make changes. The salad bar, which includes fresh produce, fruit and cottage cheese, as well as a salad bar take-out option, will now open at 11 a.m. and operate until 7:45 p.m.

Leen said the new hours extend to the caf's food order delivery times. Stone Soup now delivers 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

The changes come on the heels of Stone Soup's extended operating hours. Previously closed mid-afternoon, the café, 105 E. Alder St., now operates Monday through Friday 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Leen said it's taken some time for customers to adjust to the longer hours. Many people thought that only the salad bar option was available into the evenings, rather than the full menu. But now that they realize all options are available Stone Soup has gotten more evening take-out orders as well as inhouse dining. "We're kicking ourselves for not expanding to evenings earlier," Leen said in an e-mail. "We really love being open until 8 p.m. now."

It's breakfast for dinner and pajamas are welcome Saturday at the Whoopemup Hollow Caf.

The Waitsburg restaurant will host its first special event of the year with a Pajama Party.

Known for its Southern comfort food, Whoopemup, 120 Main St., will serve up a breakfast menu that includes huevos rancheros, Whoopemup eggs benedict, hangtown fry (oyster and bacon) and touffe omelettes. Other special treats will also be included, said co-owner and dining room Manager Ross Stevenson.

Hours are 3-9 p.m. with breakfast all day. For more details call 337-9000.
