According to a preliminary police report, 30-year-old Jose Mendoza was attacked in a parking lot in the 200 block of North Madison Street about 2:15 a.m. today.
Mendoza was apparently dropping his girlfriend off at her home, when he was confronted by several men who may have been approaching the woman as she walked to her residence, according to the report.
Walla Walla Police Public Information Officer Tim Bennett said his agency responded to the location after receiving a call of a man being hit and kicked by several men, and seen crawling away down an alley.
Police arrested Sean L. Coulter, 29, 417 N. Seventh Ave.; and Patrick Mackler, 30, 209 N. Madison St., Apt. E, each on suspicion of second-degree assault. Mendoza was not at the scene as officers arrived.
Bennett said Mendoza was being treated at Providence St. Mary Medical Center for a possible broken nose and jaw, as well as other injuries. Hospital officials contacted police after Mendoza arrived at the emergency room, about 2:26 p.m., Bennett said.
