WW agencies to benefit from hurricane funds

In August of 2005, Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast with a vengeance, wreaking havoc and destruction.

Kyle Mussman, owner of the Marcus Whitman Hotel & Conference Center, formed "Washington KARES" to respond to several needs in Pascagoula, Miss.

Mussman has decided to take the funds remaining form that effort, partner with Blue Mountain Community Foundation, and use the money locally for an "economic storm" brewing here, he said.

Seven grant payouts will include: Helpline, $1,500; Blue Mountain Action Council transitional housing, $1,500; Campfire USA, $1,000; Christian Aid Center, $1,000; Friends of Children of Walla Walla, $1,000; Medical Teams International's Walla Walla Mobile Dental Clinic, $1,000; YWCA, $1,000.
