Beale's buzzer-beater lifts Pomeroy boys over Panthers

ASOTIN, Wash. — Sean Beale’s basket at the buzzer lifted Pomeroy to a 39-37 victory over Asotin here Friday night in a boys Southeast B District Northern Division basketball game.

With only four seconds on the clock, Beale drove the length of the court and pulled up for a game-winning jump shot as time expired.

Trailing 17-8 at halftime, Pomeroy outscored Asotin 21-8 in a decisive third quarter. Grant Jenkins scored eight of his team-high 10 points in the period and Jim Ren added six points.

"We finally started making some shots," Pomeroy coach Brian Koller said of his team’s big third period, which produced a 29-25 lead going to the forth.

Beale added nine points for the Pirates, including his game winner

"We had a pretty balanced scoring attack," Koller said. "And we had tremendous defense and great rebounding."

Asotin shot 8-of-25 from beyond the 3-point line.

"Asotin had some open looks," Koller said. "They just didn’t hit them."

Pomeroy improved to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in district games. The Pirates played at Liberty Christian Saturday in a cross-division game.
