Heppner claims 48-30 win over W-M boys

ATHENA — Weston-McEwen’s boys rolled to an 11-4 lead and led Heppner 11-9 after the first period before their offense faltered.

The TigerScots managed five points in the second period and four points in the fourth en route to a 48-30 loss to the Mustangs in a Blue Mountain League boys basketball game here Saturday.

The loss leaves W-M with a 3-1 league record and a 6-7 record on the season.

Dalla Reich led the TigerScots with eight points and seven reounds.

Jared Huddleston led Heppner with 15 points, and Cody Orr snarred 12 rebounds and chipped in 11 points.

"We came out strong," W-M coach Brian Pickard said, "and I don’t think our defense was that bad. Heppner is a good team that can put a lot of points on the board, and they were the preseason favorite to win it all. I’m pleased that we held them to 48 points.

"We just couldn’t keep our offense going. We shot 12-for-45 from the floor for the game," he said.

W-M next plays Irrigon in Athena at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
