ATHENA — Wild horses couldn’t keep the No. 4-ranked Heppner Mustangs away from a trampling of Weston-McEwen’s TigerScot girls basketball team in Blue Mountain League action here Saturday.

The visitors galloped to a commanding 21-4 halftime lead before cruising to a final 45-24 winning margin.

Heppner was led by Jessica Hughes’ 12 points and eight rebounds. Brynna Rust added 10 points for the Mustangs.

While no TigerScot scored in double digits, Haley Freske put up the most with her seven points to go with a team-high six rebounds.

"Frekse had a great game as an individual," W-M coach Amber Doremus said. "She was aggressive and smart. She played nearly the entire game — I only pulled her out at the very end.

"All the girls played hard today and everybody scored," said Doremus, noting her team’s positives. "They don’t play like they’re behind and they don’t seem scared of anybody."

Weston-McEwen’s record fell to 1-12, 0-4 with the loss.

The TigerScots are off until Friday when they host Irrigon in Athena.
