TOUCHET — Touchet stayed close to Colton, the defending state champion Class 1A girls basketball team, for the first half Saturday night.

The Wildcats, however, pulled ahead in the second half for a 70-39 Southeast B crossover game victory.

The loss gives the Indians a 5-7 record on the season.

Zoe Weaver led the Indians with 13 points.

Haley Moser and McKenzie Heaslet led the Wildcats with 21 and 19 points, respectively.

Colton roared out to a 22-7 first-quarter lead, but Touchet won the second period, 18-13, to trail by 10 at the intermission.

"I’m proud of our girls," Touchet coach Scott Pumphrey said. "We dug ourselves a big hole in the first quarter, but we closed the gap to seven points midway through the second period, and we trailed by only 10 points at halftime.

"The score is not indicative of how well our girls played," he added. "We proved that we can play with them, especially if we get a few breaks, make a few more free throws and get out on them a little better when they shoot the 3s.

"They’re a very good team," Pumphrey said. "They’re the defending state champs, and they have all of their players back from last year."

The Indians return to action against Lacrosse-Washtucna with a 6 p.m. game Saturday at the Touchet gym.
