TOUCHET — What a difference a day makes!

The Touchet boys came out on fire against Colton Saturday, a night after laying an egg against Tri-Cities Prep. The Indians beat the Wildcats, 65-52, on the strength of nine 3-point baskets and 22-point first and second quarters. Touchet led by 26 after three quarters.

"We didn’t play real well against TCP, but tonight the boys came out with confidence and they were ready," Touchet coach Tim McKeown said. "They shot lights out.

"We were in deny defense on every made basket and in your face. Colton got into foul trouble right off the bat. That got us to the line and we made them pay for it. Then Byerley hit a couple 3s and we were off."

Four Touchet players finished in double figures, led by Matt Kates’ 22-point night. Bo Segerman tallied 14 points, Byerley 12, and Hodnefield 12 more for the Indians. Fifteen of Kates’ 22 points came on five 3-point baskets.

"Kates definitely sparked the team. He had four 3-pointers in the second quarter alone," McKeown said. "But the back-breaker was when Hodnefield banked in a fourth-quarter 3-pointer as the shot clock expired. The Colton defender threw up his hands like ‘what else can happen?’"

With the win, Touchet bumped its record to 7-5 overall, 2-3 in league.

The Indians play again next Saturday at home against Lacrosse-Washtucna.
