SANDPOINT, Idaho — The Bluewood Alpine Race Team opened the Emerald Empire Youth Ski League season competing in two Giant Slaloms last weekend at Schweitzer Mountain Resort.

There were 120 skiers from Bluewood, Schweitzer, Mount Spokane, Lookout Pass, Silver Mountain and 49 Degrees North at the race.

Amy Farley, competing in the J-6 divisions for ages 8 and under, improved from fifth place Saturday to second on Sunday.

Gracie Struthers, who did not finish on Saturday, rallied to finish third in the J-4 (ages 11-12) on Sunday.

Luke Freedle, in the J-5 (ages 9-10) division, improved from eighth on Saturday to a fifth-place tie Sunday.

Jared Farley, in the J-5 division, remained consistent by placing seventh both days.

The Bluewood Alpine Race Team’s next race is at 49 Degrees North Jan. 23-24.
