If you haven't seen the KC-135 refueling tankers flying above Walla Walla in recent months, chances are you've certainly heard them.
The planes have been using Walla Walla air space since about November, said Walla Walla Regional Airport Manager Jennifer Skoglund.
The pilots have been making their way into the community from Fairchild Air Force Base to practice their runway approaches. Their presence has a benefit for Walla Walla: The control tower is able to roll the practice approaches into the local statistics to the Federal Aviation Administration, which calculates the local community's cost-share for the tower. The higher the numbers, the smaller the amount from the local community, Skoglund said.
Airport officials have been encouraging military aircraft to use the space for several months, she said. Fairchild started in November. December's tally of operations reached 35. The pilots usually practice three or four approaches while in the community. They do not land, Skoglund said.
GRAZE -- "a place to eat" -- is expanding the hours at its Colville Street operation.
Starting Monday the business known for its paninis, soups, salads and hot and cold sandwiches will operate 10 a.m.- 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Special prices on beer and wine are also offered with the new hours, said owner John Lastoskie. According to the GRAZE blog, domestic beer is $2, micros are $2.50 and glasses of wine are $5 and $6. Bottles of wine run $16 and $20.

Sweet Basil Pizzeria has added soup to the menu.
The downtown pizzeria offers housemade minestrone with tomatoes, potato, zucchini, carrots, onion, oregano, garlic and basil. The soup is served with Parmesan cheese and a breadstick, or by itself for vegan patrons.
Hours of operation for the First Avenue eatery are 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. For more details, call 529-1950.
