Walla Walla County starts Comp Plan amendment process

Applications for changes to the planning document may be submitted through the end of March.

WALLA WALLA -- The amendment process is now open for the Walla Walla County Comprehensive Plan and development regulations

People and agencies can submit applications through March 31, said Steve Donovan, Community Development Department senior planner. After that date, the adoption process will include public hearings by the county Planning Commission and county commissioners to take comments prior to final adoption. Comments will also be taken by mail, telephone and e-mail.

The times and locations for hearings will be announced at a later date. The target date for completion of the amendment process is December.

This year amendments to modify any urban growth area boundaries will not be considered, Donovan said. The only exception will be technical corrections. People are strongly encouraged to talk with Community Development Department staff prior to submitting an application to avoid problems.

Adopted in 2001, the Comprehensive Plan provides a policy framework for land use and related decisions over a 20-year period. The development regulations, which are contained in titles 15, 16, 17 and 18 of the county code, are intended to implement the goals and policies of the Comprehensive Plan.

Information on how to submit an amendment application is available from the county Community Development Department at 524-2610 or by visiting the office at 310 W. Poplar St. Information and a copy of the current Comprehensive Plan will also be posted on-line on the Walla Walla County Web site.
