PENDLETON — After falling behind 40-28 by the intermission, Walla Walla Community College rebounded for an 88-79 NWAACC Eastern Region men’s basketball victory over Blue Mountain here on Wednesday.

The Warriors outpointed the Timberwolves 60-39 in the second half to improve its record to 2-0 in the East and 10-2 overall.

"We knew we could get back in the game," WWCC coach Jeff Reinland said. "In the first half, they were up by 12 and we got it down to one or two.

"Then, in the second half, within a minute-and-a-half we had the score tied," he said.

Jason Smith and Emery Henning led the Warriors with 22 and 21 points, respectfully.

Henning also pulled down a game-high seven rebounds to help WWCC to a 38-39 edge on the boards.

Matt McGregor led the Timberwolves with 18 points. Robbie Church scored 16. Tavin Hurley and Keifer Kuhn scored 14 and 12 points, respectfully, for BMCC.

"It was not pretty in that first half," Reinland said. "Maybe we were a little apprehensive with Ben Serle out with a head injury (from last week’s Columbia Basin College game).

"And he’s averaging 17 points a game, so that’s hard to lose from your lineup," he continued. "And he’s a good defender.

"But Dustin Moore stepped up. We didn’t shoot well in the first half," Reinland said. "And we did in the second half, and they couldn’t double team Emery. We started getting the ball down to him.

"We didn’t play well in the first half, but we had a great second half."

The Warriors return to action at the Dietrich Dome Saturday against Treasure Valley with a 6 p.m. start, following the women’s 4 p.m. game.
