Martin "Marty" Robert was born on Oct. 27, 1955, the son of John Louis Robert Sr. and Shirley (Oxford) Robert in Walla Walla. Martin attended area schools and later graduated from McLoughlin High School in Milton-Freewater. He loved to hunt and fish and find unusual rocks. Besides just hunting, Marty liked the idea of just getting out in the woods with family. Steelhead fishing was his passion. He would travel to the Deschutes River every year just to fish for steelhead. Marty prided himself on being able to read a stream or river and know where the best places were to catch fish. Even after he became to sick and to weak to go very far or fish anymore, he would still go to the Walla Walla River near the fish ladders and sit for hours counting and watching for fish. He worked at Rogers Cannery in Milton-Freewater when it was in operation for many years. His last years of work were at Wal-Mart where he stated he had reached his goal when he became an assistant in the Sporting Goods section. Marty stated it was the best job he ever had, being around all the fishing and hunting stuff.
Survivors include his brother, John Robert of Touchet; Uncle, Dick Robert in Milton-Freewater, Uncle Jean Robert in College Place, Uncle Gene Oxford in Yakima, and an Aunt, Thelma Roland in Cheney, Wash.; numerous cousins and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
