Phyllis Skillen, 1110 Lamb St. #13, Milton-Freewater, Oregon, passed away December 22, 2009, at her home at the age of 69 years. A Celebration of Life will be Friday, January 8, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church in Milton-Freewater with Pastor Jeff Beazley officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Walla Walla Community Hospice through the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, Oregon 97862.
Phyllis was born February 20, 1940, in Ronan, Montana, the daughter of Chester and Gladys Mein Carson. She grew up in Montana and had lived in many areas as her father was a minster. After her schooling, she attended a business school. Phyllis enjoyed U.S. History and had seen many points of history across the nation while traveling. She returned to Milton-Freewater where she took over the Pastime Caf and then opened her own business, Phyllis’s Bar and Grill. She owned and operated it until ill health forced her retirement. Phyllis enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Roxy Criss of Walla Walla, Washington, Sam Magnuson of Milton-Freewater, Oregon; a son, Nick Bass of Kennewick, Washington, 6 brothers, Lawrence Carson of Kahlotus, Washington, Phillip Carson and Dick Carson both of Milton-Freewater, Oregon, Gary Carson of Priest River, Idaho, Edwin Beers of Kalispell, Montana, and Zane Carson of Athena, Oregon; 2 sisters, Darlene Blankenship of Athena, Oregon, and Lorraine Newbold of Milton-Freewater, 3 grandchildren, Jessica Woods of Richland, Washington, Andrew Criss of Spokane, Washington, Aaron Criss of Walla Walla, Washington; 6 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
