Idler, Roberts do it their way in Coyote girls' victory

One is hot from the field, the other the free-throw line in a 40-35 win over Kiona-Betnon.

BENTON CITY, Wash. — Tiffany Idler and Nicole Roberts led Burbank’s girls to a 40-35 South Central Conference Eastern Division girls basketball victory over Kiona-Benton here Friday night with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

But they took different paths.

While Idler was 5-for-7 from the field and a chilling 1-for-11 from the free-throw line in her team-leading 11-point effort, Roberts made just 1-of-13 shots from the floor but was 8-for-10 from the line for her 10-point contribution.

As a team, Burbank connected on 12-of-42 field-goal tries and was 15-for-34 from the free-throw line, neither of which met coach John Muchlinski’s expectations.

"It was not our best effort," Muchlinski said. "We made just enough free throws to pull out the victory. If we make about 10 more the game is not even in question.

"But it was a good game for us in that we had to face some adversity. These types of wins allow us to dig deep and find out about ourselves when the shots and bounces are not going our way."

Molly Small of the Bears was the game’s leading scorer with 12 points and 16 rebounds.
