POMEROY — DeSales held Pomeroy to seven points over the middle two quarters here Saturday in girls non-league basketball action.

The Irish got 17 points from Caitlin Duncan and defeated the Pirates, 40-26.

"We turned the ball over quite a bit," Pirates coach Nettie Severs said. "They (DeSales) have a good press, but we made it look really good. DeSales always works hard and they outhustled us tonight."

The Irish led 20-12 at intermission and used a 13-4 third-quarter run to take command at 33-16 after three.

The Irish bounced back from a 59-37 loss to Liberty Christian Friday to get the ship back on track.

Erin Guisti and Stephanie Ferrel each added six to the Irish win. Jamie Majerus grabbed a team-leading nine rebounds.

Sadie Slaybaugh led the Pirates with six points. Kindsey Bott and Haylee Koller added five each, but the Pirates only hit 11-of-39 shots from the field.

"We couldn’t put the ball in the basket," Severs said. "We were pretty disappointed with our effort after last night (a 40-37 win over Rosalia). We just got outworked."

Pomeroy travels to Garfield-Palouse Friday.

DeSales hosts Waitsburg-Prescott Friday.
