POMEROY — HayLee Koller scored 13 points here Friday night to lead Pomeroy to its first Southeast B District Northern Division girls basketball victory of the season — a 40-37 triumph over Rosalia.

Sadie Slaybaugh added eight points and Kindsey Bott pulled down 10 rebounds for the Pirates, who were 1-5 in league and 4-7 overall prior to a Saturday home cross division game with DeSales.

Pomeroy prevailed on a night when both teams struggled with their shooting — from the field and free throw line. The Pirates shot 25 percent (13-of-52) from the floor and were 11-of-32 from the stripe. Rosalia shot 30 percent (13-of-43) from the field and made just five of 14 freebies.

"Both teams didn’t shoot real well, but both teams played tough," Pomeroy coach Nettie Severs said. "We came on defensively in the second quarter and played better team ball on the offensive end. It was good to get a win."
