Top-ranked Spartans handle Pomeroy boys

POMEROY — The No. 1-ranked Class 1B team in state, the undefeated 15-0 Rosalia Spartans, beat up on Class 2B Southeast District Northern Division rival Pomeroy 63-30 in boys basketball action here Friday night.

"Rosalia was deep, big and quick," Pomeroy coach Brian Koller said. "They could also shoot well and pass well."

Jim Maley of the Spartans led all scorers with 24 points. The leading scorer for the Pirates was Grant Jenkins, who had 13 points.

The Spartans hit seven of its 20 3-pointers on the night.

"We sagged in to try to shut down the post," Koller said. "And finally they hit some outside shots."

"Our team played right with them for the first seven minutes," Koller said. "Then their many weapons took over and we couldn’t keep up."

The loss dropped Pomeroy to 5-6 on the year, 3-3 in the North.
