WALLA WALLA — Liberty Christian’s boys came into the DeSales gym Friday with a perfect 5-0 record in the Southeast B District’s Southern Division.

The Patriots remained undefeated — for a bunch of reasons.

Liberty Christian led from start to finish and defeated the Irish 81-31.

The Patriots shot to a 37-19 lead at the half, and put this one away with a 23-4 third-quarter performance.

"We’ve been playing well, especially on the road," Patriots coach Terry Watson said. "The kids have come together and are sharing the basketball and getting everyone involved. We pride ourselves on looking at the third quarter to get the game over with."

Matt Wujek led the Irish with eight first-half points. Wujek scored four in the second quarter and Tommy Gregg scored five to lead the Irish to their only double-digit quarter of the night, as DeSales scored 13 in the second.

"We got some turnovers (10 in the first half) when we pressed," Irish coach Mike Giusti said. "We scored so infrequently that we couldn’t get into it very often."

The third quarter was a highlight reel for the taller Patriots. LC shot 9-of-18 from the floor, 4-of-4 from the free throw line, forced 11 Irish turnovers, and held DeSales to buckets from Pat Richard and Nick Wales to take a 60-23 lead to the fourth.

"They are well coached and have the fundamentals (down)," Giusti said. "(And) they shoot the ball (very well)."

Cody Brockman’s 19 points led four Patriotsin double figures.

LC shot 53 percent (34-of-64) from the field for the game, ran when it had the opportunity and pounded the ball into 6-foot-3 Brockman, and 6-5 Bryan Corrigan, who finished with 15.

"Some teams like to get out and run with us, and we like that," Watson said. "If some team wants to spread their defense out, we’re ready. We’ll take it inside if a team wants to slow it down."

The Patriots improved to 6-0 overall.

Wujek added a team-leading eight rebounds to go with his eight points to lead the Irish. Gregg finished with seven points as the Irish drop to 1-3 in the division and traveled to Pomeroy Saturday for a cross-division game against the Pirates.

"We’re not throwing in the towel," Giusti said. "We get to play them again, but we have a couple before that. We need to focus on those, starting with (Saturday) night."
