Feb. 13, 1937 - Jan. 6, 2010
On Jan. 6, 2010, Walla Walla resident Judy(Alice) Shanley passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side, following a courageous three-year battle with cancer.
Born on Feb. 13, 1937, to Reuben and Mabel Collins of Humboldt, Iowa, Judy spent her childhood in Olalla, Wash. She graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1955. Judy later moved to Pullman with her husband, Jim. She and Jim enjoyed traveling together during his years as a football coach at WSU, and later during his tenure with Northwestern Mutual Life. Her love of art led her to open the Village Gallery in Kennewick. Judy was proud of her efforts to bring exposure to new artists both as a gallery owner and later through her volunteer work at the Spokane Art School. As a mother to three children, she was patient, kind and giving. It was as a grandmother, though, that she found her greatest joy. Judy loved traveling and shopping with her grandchildren, and always took time to make each one feel special.
Judy is survived by her husband, James Shanley; son Craig Jensen, son Gordon Shanley; daughter Kelley Shanley; grandchildren Jaquelyn Shanley, Jessica Forsyth, James Shanley, Roddie Shanley, Cody Jensen, Sorenne Shanley-Beaudry, Chaney Shanley-Beaudry, Tate Shanley-Beaudry; brother Thomas Collins; and sister Colleen Demko.
Services will be held on Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. in Walla Walla at the Institute for Enology and Viticulture, 500 Tausick Way. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the charity of your choice, in Judy’s name.
