Members of the Dayton School Board are Steve Martin, Marchand Hovrud, Tamara Fritze, Joe Huether and David Bailey. With all present Wednesday the board:
- DC TRIP: Heard a report by teacher Mary Pryor on trip to Washington, D.C. in 2011.
- RACE TO THE TOP: Heard report on federal Race to the Top competitive grant.
- LEVY: Update on what levy committee has been doing for Feb. 9 levy.
- COACHES: Discussing hiring guidelines for head coach openings for track and football.
- SUMMER PROGRAM: Discussed Columbia Cares Summer Program to be held in Dayton district facilities.
- ENERGY GRANT: Discussed options for funding $158,000 in local matching funds in order to receive the $250,000 OSPI energy grant.
- SPECIAL EDUCATION: Reviewed program, and discussed ways to approach increased enrollment in special education.
- STUDY SURVEY: Reviewed facilities study and how it ties with energy grant program.
- MIDDLE SCHOOL: Discussed middle school spring sports, and associated costs, opportunities to participate. No current decision made.
- PERSONNEL: Approved hiring Jeff McCann as Title/LAP teacher, and John Donnelly, middle school girls assistant basketball coach. Also approved Nyssa Zanger as middle school girls basketball volunteer. Unanimous.
- DONATIONS: Accepted $250 donation for Youth amp; Government, and $250 for Class of 2012 from Kiwanis. Unanimous.
- FUNDING: Approved resolution to allow superintendent to seek funding options to offset state energy grant. Unanimous.
