WALLA WALLA -- The Walla Walla County Conservation District will hold its annual meeting Jan. 28.
The event will be held at the Walla Walla Regional Airport Blue Mountain Community Room. Registration will open at 8 a.m. and elections will take place from then until noon. The seat held by vice-chairman Guy McCaw is up for election this year.
All registered voters in the district, which covers the whole county, are eligible to cast ballots. The district's board of directors consists of three elected members and two who are appointed by the governor.
Board members are unpaid volunteers who identify local conservation needs, set goals and implement plans to protect and preserve soil, water, range and woodlands on non-federal lands. Supervisors also coordinate assistance and funding from federal, state, local and private sources to carry out programs.
Among items on the agenda will be a discussion of the new Walla Walla Watershed Management Partnership and what the implications are for water right holders in the Walla Walla River basin.
