ATHENA — Five different Weston-McEwen players scored in double figures and the TigerScots rolled over the Elgin Huskies 78-60 in a Blue Mountain Conference boys basketball game here Friday night, 78-60.

Six different TigerScots scored in the 20-6 first-quarter charge that led to a 20-6 advantage after eight minutes of play.

Corban Hegdal led the way with six of his 13 points in the first stanza.

Elgin lost more ground in the second period and the TigerScots extended their lead to 20 by halftime, 43-23.

Miles Thul led the charge in the second quarter with six of his 12 points.

"We had five guys scoring for us tonight," W-M coach Brian Pickard said. "It was a good team effort all-around."

The third quarter belonged to Miguel Penaloza, who scored 13 of his team-high 18 points off the bench.

"Miguel scored a lot for us in the third," Pickard said. "He is instant energy off the bench and has done that for us all year."

In the third, Elgin was only able to inch closer and bring the lead to 18 for the TigerScots.

The Huskies got as close as 12 points in the fourth period with about 4:30 remaining.

"We left some kids open early on in the fourth quarter," Pickard said. "We had some letdowns and they hit some shots. The Huskies are a pretty good team, despite their record. Elgin has lost a lot of close games this year."

The loss dropped Elgin to 1-6 in league play.

Efrain Nieves of Elgin hit four 3-pointers and finished with 12 points. Kyle Miller scored 11 points on the night for the Huskies and Dalton Moore had 11.

"They’re a scary team," Pickard said. "They have a lot of good athletes who can shoot from the outside."

W-M outrebounded Elgin 36-24.

The leading rebounders for the TigerScots included Owen Hegdal and Thul with seven apiece.

Thul also had four of the team’s 10 steals.

Owen Hegdal dropped in 16 points.

Reich contributed 12 points and six rebounds for W-M.
