BURBANK — Trailing 15-10 at halftime, Burbank’s offense picked up the pace after the break and the Coyotes rallied for an important 34-32 girls South Central Conference Eastern Division girls basketball victory over Connell here Friday night.

The victory moved the Coyotes into sole possession of first place in the division with a 6-0 record, 13-1 overall. The Eagles slipped into second place at 5-1, 7-6 overall, going into a Saturday night home game against Royal.

Burbank was idle Saturday and returns to action next Friday at Warden.

Tiffany Idler led the Coyotes with 10 points and Jeni Akerblade, Briana Rivas and Monica Houser came up with big buckets in the second half, according to Burbank coach John Muchlinksi. Rivas finished with seven points, Akerbalde added six points and Houser’s lone basket of the game was a 3-pointer.

Nicole Roberts also scored six points and snared eight rebounds for the Coyotes.

Connell was led by Maci Whitby’s nine points and eight rebounds.

"Connell came out fast and furious and I don’t know if we were ready for that," Muchlinski said. "Normally when we hold a team to 15 points in the first half I feel good about our chances. But we were 5-for-24 shooting in the first half against their defensive pressure.
