KENNEWICK — Vicki Reardon converted a low-post opportunity with 20 seconds left to lift Wa-Hi to an improbable 60-58 victory over Kamiakin in a Big Nine Conference Cascade Division girls basketball game here Friday night.

The Blue Devils, 4-4 in league and 7-7 overall prior to a home contest with Eastmont on Saturday night, trailed by 18 points with five minutes remaining in the final quarter before Jamie Weisner and freshman newcomer Libbie Jimenez helped bring the Blue Devils back.

Weisner scored 13 of her game-high 26 points in the final quarter while Jimenez knocked down a 3-point shot with 90 seconds left to bring Wa-Hi within three, 58-55, and provided the assist that led to Reardon’s game-winning bucket.

Sandwiched between the heroics of Jimenez was a trey off the hand of Jill McDaniels from the left wing that tied the score at 58-58 with one minute to go.

"We just pulled her (Jimenez) up from jayvee and she hit a huge 3," Wa-Hi coach Jill Meliah said. "And Jill McDaniels hit a 3 with someone in her grill.

"We picked up our full-court man pressure and forced them into bad shots," Meliah said of one of the keys to the fourth-quarter comeback. "With 42 seconds left, we went to a spread offense and Libbie found Vicki with 20 seconds to go."

Then the Blue Devils’ defense stepped up one final time. Wa-Hi forced Kamiakin into a fade-away attempt from 3-point distance, Meliah said, and Weisner grabbed the rebound with two seconds on the clock. She was tied up, but the possession arrow favored the Blue Devils.

The Braves had a last chance to tie or win after Alicia Baker missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 1.4 seconds showing, but a half-court heave missed the mark as time expired.

Weisner led a 42-26 Blue Devil edge on the glass with 13 boards.

"Give our girls credit," Meliah said. "They never quit fighting."
