Mac-Hi Pioneers lose to Baker 71-36 in GOL basketball game

MILTON-FREEWATER — The Baker Bulldogs pounded the Mac-Hi Pioneers, 71-36, here Saturday in Greater Oregon League matchup.

"They outplayed us, we didn’t have an answer for their athleticism," Pioneer coach Nick Ellis said. "They’re really a very good team. The guys played hard tonight but we were overmatched."

The leading scorers for Baker were Derek Blakenship with 18 and B.J. Quintana with 16.

Mac-Hi’s Nick Stanford tallied up 11 points and had three assists to lead the Pioneers.

Baker outrebounded Mac-Hi, 26-19, in the game.

Chris Brown was the top-rebounder for Mac-Hi with eight.

Baker made nine 3-point goals on the evening and had 28 field goals overall.

The Pioneers had 12 field goals, with a slight advantage in makes and attempts at the free-throw line.

"We didn’t shoot very well," Ellis said. "And Baker shot the lights out. They’re really very tough."

The loss drops Mac-Hi to 6-12 on the season.

The Pioneers have upcoming games in LaGrande on Tuesday and at Ontario on Saturday.

"We’re going to have our work cut out for us," Ellis said. "It is really tough to get wins on the road and both of those places this week are hard to play at."
