Panther boys nip DeSales in Southeast B crossover action, 65-57

WALLA WALLA — DeSales led Asotin 34-33 at halftime, but the Panthers stormed back in the third quarter on the way to a 65-57 Southeast B boys basketball victory here Saturday.

Asotin outscored the Irish 17-6 in the third quarter. DeSales got back on track for a 17-15 edge in the final eight minutes but could not overcome the deficit.

The loss gives DeSales a 3-11 record overall and a 1-4 record in the South Division.

DeSales’ Pat Richard scored 24 points to tie with game-high scoring honors.

Tommy Gregg contributed 12 points for the Irish.

Ben Servatius led Asotin with 24 points.

Zach Dalton and Josh Trimmel added 15 points apiece for the Panthers.

The Panthers made one more field goal that DeSales, and each team hit six 3-pointers.

Asotin went 7-for-15 at the line, and the Irish went 1-for-4.

Asotin also won the rebounding battle, 48-34,

"I thought we came out and played hard," Irish coach Mike Giusti said. "We were way down in the first quarter, but we came back and took the lead at halftime.

"Then we turned cold again in the third quarter, and they took advantage," Giusti said. "We got it back down to five points with about 45 seconds to play in the fourth quarter.

"Asotin played hard, too," he continued. "Hats off to them. But our guys fought hard as they have for the last three games. All three have been hard-fought.

"We’re making progress," Giusti said. "If we continue to put things together, we’re going to win some games down the stretch."

DeSales returns to action with a 7:30 p.m. home game against Tri-Cities Prep on Tuesday.
