I am writing to remind readers to take a moment to mark Feb. 9 on their new calendars. This is the election date of the College Place school levy. It is a replacement levy and the old levy will expire at the end of December 2010.

This is a school programs and operations levy. The district is not asking for the full authorized levy amount allowable under state law.

For 2009 the district leaves $938,000 in uncollected, but allowable, levy dollars.

I feel the district is asking a reasonable amount for school programs and operations. College Place School District for 2009 has the lowest combined public schools' tax rate in the county by 47 cents.

I am asking that you support the College Place schools and vote yes on Feb. 9.
