Jack Frederick Rodda, 95, peacefully passed away on January 19, 2010. Jack was born August 10, 1914 in Butte, Montana to John and Leticia Rodda.
After 63 years of marriage, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys.
Surviving family members are daughter, Marjorie Tompkins; son John Rodda and wife Rebecca, their two children, grandson Tom Rodda and wife Melissa and two great-grandsons, Jack and Emmett, and randdaughter, Jane Rodda; daughter, Kathleen Johnson and grandchildren, Jill and James; daughter Karen Robinson and grandsons, Andre and John.
After graduating from Butte High School, Jack attended Montana State School of Mines in Butte and onto Montana State University where he received a B.S. degree in Business in 1938. While at MSU, Jack was affiliated with the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and received a ROTC commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Finance Corp. After college graduation, Jack attended graduate school in accounting at University of Montana.
Jack was a high school commercial teacher in Ingomar, Bridger and later Libby, Montana where he met Gladys, an elementary teacher. Called to active duty in January 1942, Jack relocated to Walla Walla where he served as Captain, Fiscal Director, at McCaw General Hospital from February 1943 to March 1946. After leaving the service, he was engaged in the accounting profession for over fifty years as a self-employed accountant. In 1981-1984,
Jack was appointed by the governor to serve on the State Board of Accountancy. Other professional organizations served were Washington State Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Community service was of great importance to Jack and is evident in the various organizations in which he served: Order of Eastern Star Alki Chapter, past Patron; Blue Mountain Lodge #13, Past Master and KCCH degree in Scottish Rite; Blue Mountain Shrine Club and Cycle Patrol; 50 year member of Rotary, past president; Elks Club #287; Chamber of Commerce; United Way; Camp Fire Girls, president: Green Park PTA Council Board; Pioneer Jr. High PTA, president; Fort Walla Walla tour guide: member of Walla Walla Country Club; and a 60 year member of Pioneer United Methodist Church.
Graveside Funeral Services will be held February 20, 2010 at 12:00 Noon at the Mountain View Cemetery, Masonic Section. Memorial Funeral Services will be held at the Pioneer United Methodist Church on February 20, 2010 at 1:30 pm with Reverend Jim Graham officiating.
