Grizzly girls hang with Imbler into fourth before falling, 50-36

IMBLER — A short-handed Helix squad played unbeaten Imbler tough until halfway through the fourth quarter here Tuesday night.

Then the Panthers pulled away for a 50-36 non-league girls basketball victory and extended their record to 17-0 on the season.

Imbler jumped out to a 13-5 lead in the first quarter, but the Grizzlies barreled back with two points, 23-21 at the intermission.

Each team scored nine points in the third quarter, and Imbler took a two-point edge into the final period.

With Helix playing five players and Imbler playing nine, the Panthers rolled to an 18-6 advantage in the fourth quarter for the winning margin.

Chyanne Hack led Helix with 11 points.

Demetria Thompson led Imbler with 13 points.

"We just ran out of gas in the fourth quarter," Helix coach Dean Fouquette said. "We only played five players, and they played nine.

"They’re a very good team, and our kids played hard. They put Imbler to the test."

Helix hosts Dufer with a 6 p.m. start on Friday.
