Poor free-throw shooting catches up to Mac-Hi girls in loss to Tigers

LA GRANDE — Mac-Hi’s girls struggled at the free-throw line, going 8-for-22, in a 43-42 Greater Oregon League basketball loss to La Grande here Tuesday.

The loss leaves the Pioneers with 1-3 league record and a 7-12 record overall.

Mac-Hi’s Andrea Roeder led all scorers with 20 points, and Sierra Burchell chipped in 14 points for the Pioneers.

La Grande had nine players score, but had no one in double figures.

La Grande led 11-7 after one period and 20-19 at halftime.

La Grande led 31-27 after three periods.

Mac-Hi outscored the Tigers 15-12 in the fourth quarter, but La Grande held on for the win.

"That was definitely one that we should have won," Mac-Hi coach Curtis Pumphrey said. "Missing too many free throws has been killing us all year. We had opportunities to win this one all over the place."

Mac-Hi travels to Ontario on Saturday.
