Daniel G. Gannaway passed away Jan. 26, 2010, at his home in Weston. A memorial service will be held Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, at 3 p.m. at the Milton-Freewater Junior Show Grounds. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in memory of Dan Gannaway to the Milton-Freewater FFA, 4-H, Milton-Freewater Junior Show or charity of choice in care of Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, OR 97862.
Dan was born March 15, 1946 in Walla Walla, to Roy and Rosabelle Newell-Gannaway. Dan attended school in Milton-Freewater, at Tum-A-Lum Grade School and Mac-Hi class of 1964. While serving in the Army National Guard for 22 years he worked as a mechanic at 33rd and Marine Drive, Portland, Ore. He also managed the Milton-Freewater Armory from 1983 until 1994. Dan was the motor sergeant and platoon sergeant for the 3rd Cavalry. Dan was also a member of the American Legion.
Dan worked as a salesman for H H International and most recently as a correctional officer at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla. But Dan’s true love was farming, he was happiest on a tractor. Dan enjoyed trail riding and riding in the parades. He was a member of the Pioneer Posse in Milton-Freewater for many years. During those years he enjoyed attending all of his daughter Rhonda’s court events. He also enjoyed team penning with his daughter and their friends.
During his illness over the past year, Dan enjoyed fishing with his son, Ron, and his son-in-law, Nathan. Dan enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching them grow up. Dan always had his own way of saying "hello" and "how are you" which always brought a smile or a chuckle.
Dan is survived by his wife, Roselee, at home; two brothers, Leroy of Wasilla, Alaska, and Bruce of Spokane; four sons and three daughters-in-law, John Patricia of Fairbanks, Alaska, Ron Patti of Milton-Freewater, Randy of Richland and Jeff Cindy of Tacoma; two daughters, Jolene of Puyallup, Wash., and Rhonda of Kahlotus, Wash.; one son-in-law, Nathan Svehaug of Milton-Freewater; 11 grandchildren, Austin, Tyler, Joseph, Amanda, Tessa, Oliver, Claire, Emily, Bradley, Nicholas and Naomi; and two great-granddaughters, Isabel and Eleanor.
