June 27, 1938 – December 5, 2009
Leona Taylor passed away on December 5, 2009 in Kennewick, WA of heart failure. Leona was born in Rest Haven, B.C., Canada on June 27, 1938 to Norman and Amy White. Leona graduated from Auburn Adventist Academy in 1956. In 1957, she married Edward S. Taylor. They later divorced in 1995.
Leona spent many years working for Walla Walla College and College Place Police Department as a dispatcher. In 1977, they relocated to Southern California, where she worked 30+ years for Glendale Adventist Medical Center, in Glendale, CA, in the Business Office, Nuclear Medicine and Out-Patient Laboratory. GAMC awarded Leona a two-week trip to Hawaii in appreciation for 25 years of dedicated service to the hospital. She was an avid collector of teddy bears, and used the collection to decorate the patient lobby areas for the different holidays and seasons – much to their delight. Leona was known for her unique Christmas newsletters, recapping the
year’s events in a poem. She happily retired in 2007 and relocated to Richland, WA to be closer to her daughter. Sadly, she was plagued by multiple medical problems during her retirement. Leona had a strong faith in God, which she leaned heavily on during the last two years of her life.
Leona was preceded in death by her father in March, 2009. She is survived by her mother in Chilliwack, BC; her daughter, Sharlene Taylor and partner Sandy in the Walla Walla area; her son, Allen Taylor and wife Belinda in Southern California; and her granddaughters, Jennifer, Stephanie and Kelsey; and grandson, Jeffrey, also in Southern California. There will not be a service, but at her request, the family will spread her ashes at Wallowa Lake, a favorite family vacation spot.
She loved her family and will be missed very much!! The family may be contacted via email at LeonaTaylorFamily@yahoo.com.
