MILTON-FREEWATER — Davis Orchards will be honored this week at the annual meeting of the Umatilla County Soil and Water Conservation District.
The third-generation, family-owned business will receive the "Umatilla County Cooperator of the Year" award, said Heidi Hartman, district natural resources specialist. The honor will be presented at a dinner meeting which begins at 6 p.m. Thursday at the American Legion Hall, 424 N.E. Eighth Ave.
People wishing to attend need to RSVP by Monday by calling the district at 541- 276-8131 or e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org. The dinner cost is $10 per person payable at the door.
The cooperator of the year award recognizes farmers and ranchers for their stewardship of the land and their soil and water conservation efforts, Hartman said. Davis Orchards ships more than 225,000 boxes of fruit a year throughout the world.
Keynote speaker at the dinner will be Joel Huesby, co-founder of Thundering Hooves Pasture Finished Meats.
Wade Foster of U.S. Rep. Greg Walden’s office is also scheduled to speak at the event.
