Pirate grapplers wrap up season at St. John Quad Dual meet


ST. JOHN — The Pomeroy grapplers wrapped their regular season with a bevy of victories here Saturday at the St. John Quad Dual meet.

No team scores were kept as more than four teams competed, many without full rosters.

Five Pirates pinned opponents on the day, with a sixth victory coming via technical fall.

Nick Tewalt, Kenny Carr and Jeff Warren secured first round pins. Tewalt triumphed over Gus Bailey of St. John-Endicott at 130 pounds, Carr over Luke Barnett of Tri-Cities Prep at 140, and Warren over Bo Neihenke from SJ-E at 285.

Ryan Smith, 125 pounds, pinned his opponent Seth Holden from Kittitas in the second round, as did Tory Knebel against T-C Prep’s Connor Smith in the 160-pound class.

Klyntin Bott took Saul Fuentes of Kittitas by technical fall in the second round of their 189-pound match.

The other individual winner for Pomeroy was Justin Aldrich in a 9-3 decision over Nate Zunker of Reardan also at 160 pounds.

Districts are set for next Saturday at Ritzville. Pomeroy takes two No. 1 seeds into the tourney in Knebel (27-0) at 160, and Bott 25-1 at 189.
