UNION, Ore. — Weston-McEwen’s boys basketball team jumped out to a 23-7 first-quarter lead, stumbled into foul trouble in the second quarter and the Union Bobcats recovered over the rest of the game to make it close before the TigerScots won the 61-59 Class 2A Blue Mountain Conference game.

"We had three starters sitting with four fouls in the second quarter," W-M coach Brian Pickard said. "In the third quarter, we had all five starters sitting in foul trouble. We jumped out to the big lead with our starters with full court pressure, the referees started calling it closer and lots of our guys got into foul trouble."

Tyler Babb had 10 points and Jacob Christopher finished with three 3-pointers and 14 points for W-M.

Dallas Reich and Owen Hegdal, despite foul trouble, finished with 10 rebounds apiece.

"Tonight’s game showed how deep our team really is," Pickard said. "A lot of guys stepped who haven’t played much, stepped up and played well for us. I was real proud of the way they responded and what they did out on the court."

The win improves the TigerScots to 8-2 in league.

W-M plays again Tuesday in a non-league game at home against Waitsburg-Prescott at 7:30 p.m.
