COLTON — The defending state Class 1B champion Colton Wildcats girls basketball team continued its run of dominance over Southeast B District schools with a 74-37 doubling up of visiting Touchet here Saturday.

Colton, which returned all players from last year’s championship squad, exploded for 50 points in the two middle quarters as they went on to the 37-point thrashing of Touchet.

"I’m proud of the way we played in the first quarter," Touchet coach Scott Pumphrey said of his squad’s competitive opening frame. "But we don’t have the horses to hang with them for the whole game. We got our free throws back together — 8-for-8 — so we’ll take that positive out of it. We’re going to need those free throws come tournament time."

The normally reliable Indians shot a season-low 11-for-31 from the foul stripe Tuesday versus Waitsburg-Prescott.

Four players scored in double figures for the Wildcats Saturday. Haley Moser was tops with 18 points. Kelsey Moser had 17, while McKenzie Haslet and Mikayla Nygreen each added 14.

Zoe Weaver led the way for the Indians with 15 points.

Touchet plays its final regular season home game Friday versus Tri-Cities Prep.
