COLLEGE PLACE — Walla Walla Valley Academy made it a headache of an exacta for visiting Waitsburg-Prescott here Saturday. For the second straight night, the W-P boys led after three quarters but fell to a top divisional opponent in the fourth. WWVA defeated W-P 58-55 in the Southeast B Southern division basketball contest.

"They (Waitsburg-Prescott) were on fire and shot a great first half," WWVA coach Les Balk said. "Midway through the fourth we were down eight. Then we caught a break and hit some 3s."

Down by eight in the fourth, WWVA’s comeback started with two Andrew Scott 3s. Michael Hanson added two more, as WWVA made all of their treys on the night in the decisive final quarter. Meanwhile, WWVA held W-P to single digit scoring in the final frame for the second straight night.

"Both Marshall (Failing) and Caleb (Sauerbier) had four fouls for most of the fourth quarter and didn’t foul out. If either had fouled out, we would have been done. We just don’t have big enough guys without those two to rebound against them," Balk said.

The loss drops W-P into a tie for second with WWVA in the Southeast South, with WWVA holding the tie-breaker. The teams play again at Waitsburg to finish the regular season.
