Demonstration paintings by Joyce Anderson used in her Walla Walla Community College Water Color classes since 1982 are on display at Coffee Connections Cafe 57 E. Main St., through the month of July.
In a news release, Anderson said, "I began teaching for WWCC in 1982 at the Senior Center. Soon I was teaching community education classes in watercolors. My classes have been all over the campus until settling in the soils lab in the tech building. I like it there because it is a neutral space for people who are not 'artists.'
They are teachers, moms on a night out, business people, office workers, husband/wife, parent/child teams taking the class together, photographers, librarians, people suffering a loss and people seeking to learn a new skill.
"Many years ago I did a lot of explaining color theory and art concepts, along with painting. One of my senior citizen students said, 'Mrs. Anderson, we want to paint instead of hear a lecture on how to paint. Next week, we might be dead.'
"Therefore, I provide them with my drawing of a subject and a color photo of the subject. We get right into the process of painting."
