WALLA WALLA - Walla Walla County Coroner Frank Brown, who last month failed to register by the primary election ballot deadline after receiving harsh criticism from key public officials, is now registered as a write-in candidate for coroner.
Walla Walla County Auditor Karen Martin confirmed that Brown registered Friday afternoon as a write-in candidate.
Though registering is not a requirement of write-in candidates, it does facilitate the election process by allowing ballot counters to attribute partial names to corresponding registered write-in candidate, like when a voter uses a first initial instead of a full first name, Martin said.
Brown recently came under criticism from public officials, including county Sheriff Mike Humphreys, Police Chief Chuck Fulton and Fire Chief Terry Thomas, who recently filed complaints about the coroner with county commissions.
Brown could not be reached for comment about his candidacy.
